The Big Help
Supporting Our Community
Nickelodeon's pro-social campaign, the Big Help urges kids to make a difference by engaging their bodies and minds. Nickelodeon Suites Resort helps out by connecting kids to resources and organizations that encourage involvement; as well as by tackling four key issues head-on: the environment, health and wellness, education, and community.
How Does the Nick Hotel Participate in the Big Help?
Clean the World
Nickelodeon Suites Resort has donated 132 lbs. of soap and 70 lbs. of shampoo and counting! Clean the World is a non-profit charity organization that collects and recycles the partially used soap from hotels, resorts and others sources to donate to impoverished people around the world. By providing soap to those that need it most, Clean the World helps prevent the spread of disease, saving lives in the process. Learn more at www.cleantheworld.org.
Florida Green Lodging
Recognized by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection with a Green Lodging Certification for environmentally friendly hotel practices, Nickelodeon Suites Resort achieved its green lodging status via a variety of sustainable practices. We use reusable dining items, encourage the reuse of bath towels and linens, established a volunteer green committee, reimburse employees for public bus passes and have installed energy-efficient lighting throughout the property. Since 2004, the Florida Green Lodging Program has set conservational guidelines for the hospitality industry. The state also recommends designated properties like Nick Hotel to companies and trade organizations seeking environmentally conscious lodging and facilities. Gingerbread Run 5K
An annual event that celebrates the joys of childhood and inspires hope for families who need it most. It is a professionally timed race that can be walked, run or strolled. Give Kids The World
Nickelodeon Suites Resorts characters visit Give Kids The World (GKTW) Village every Tuesday to help fulfill the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Each holiday season, Nickelodeon Suites Resorts team members decorate a Villa for the visiting families to enjoy. Give Kids The World is a non-profit organization that exists only to fulfill the wishes of all children with life-threatening illnesses and their families from around the world to experience a memorable, joyful, cost-free visit to the Central Florida attractions, and to enjoy the magic of Give Kids The World for as long as there is a need. National Fallen Firefighters Foundation
Nickelodeon Suites Resort has donated more than $12,000 to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Congress created the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to lead a nationwide effort to honor America's fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the non-profit Foundation has developed and expanded programs that fulfill that mandate. Their mission is to honor and remember Americas fallen fire heroes and to provide resources to assist their survivors in rebuilding their lives. For more information, visit www.firehero.org.
Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children

Largo Fire Department
Largo Fire Rescue and Nickelodeon Suites Resort honored Firefighter Nick Rees for his heroic and life saving efforts in early 2013 with a surprise visit at Largo Fire Rescue Station 39 from those Nickelodeon Heroes, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In recognition of Nick Hotel's HERO Appreciation Month, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles said thanks to HERO Nick Rees who was nominated by his fellow firefighters for going Above and Beyond the Call of Duty.
Ronald McDonald House
Many families travel far from home to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children. The Ronald McDonald House program provides a home-away-from-home for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost.
A few times a year, the Big Help team from Nickelodeon Suites Resort prepares and serves home-cooked meals to the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. As always, we deliver a fun Nickelodeon twist. The last time we visited, our team wore Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle masks to help brighten the guests’ day.
Orlando Police Department
The Orlando Police Department teamed up with the Nickelodeon Suites Resort’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to recognize Officer Joe Lundy as Distinguished Officer of the Year. The green crime fighters, in addition to Chief of Police John Mina, honored Lundy for being “a hero and mentor to the youth” in the Orlando community.
Kissimmee Elementary School
The Nick Hotel has adopted Kissimmee Elementary for the past 3 years through the CFHLA Adopt A School Program. Every year, around Thanksgiving, we donate turkey and sides for the school’s annual Thanksgiving lunch which benefits the families who would otherwise not be able to celebrate the holiday. We also adopt Christmas Angels and sponsor children so that they have gifts under their tree on Christmas Day. During various times of the year, we conduct food drives to help stock the school food pantry. We host the Annual Top Reader reception in which we recognize all of the children who achieved a goal with their reading.
